SHEC Magic Show

Jun 05, 2019

Allow yourself to be transported to a night of fun, magic and comedy this June at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre. Our acts for the night are three talented local entertainers Larry Soffer, Stuart Lightbody and Stuart Taylor.

Larry Soffer

Born in Cape Town Larry Soffer was inspired by legendary magician David Copperfield and enrolled at the College of Magic at the age of 13, discovering that a numerological ordering of the letters of his name means ‘the magician,’ cementing his future in magic. While studying he worked many events and was even awarded the SARMOTI (Siegfried and Roy Masters of the Impossible) Grant by world famous Las Vegas Magicians, Siegfried and Roy for his final year of study. After graduation Larry took an interest in Mentalism and appeared on radio and television shows, and in 2006 performed at the world-renowned Magic Castle in Hollywood, becoming the youngest south african to perform there and the only to ever be awarded membership at that time. Larry continues to wow audiences with his ‘Believe To See’ shows.

Stuart Lightbody

From performing at private parties in Italy to the biggest Fortune-500 companies, Stuart Lightbody has definitely made his mark in the world of magic representing South Africa at the World Magic Championships in Sweden and at the World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas. Stuart has spent over 20 years studying magic with his main passion in sleight of hand. He has also won numerous local and international awards including two "Silver Ovation Awards" at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival, a "Weekly Best of Festival Award" at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the "Creative Award" at the Prague Fringe Festival.

Stuart Taylor

Best known as presenter of SABC 3’s tv show ‘Going Nowhere Slowly’ Stuart Taylor has delighted audiences both on and off-screen. Originally a science graduate from Stellenbosch University Stuart realised his passion for comedy and magic performing across South Africa and delighting audiences from the Pleasace Dome at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to the Berlin International Comedy Festival. He is currently touring the country with his latest shows ‘Money’s Too Tight To Mention’ as well as ‘Learner Husband’.
